Dianne E. Butts started writing in 1989 and received her first publication in The Lookout in December of 1991. Since then, she has seen nearly 200 publications of her work in such periodicals as Focus on the Family magazine, the Salvation Army’s War Cry, the Christian Motorcyclist Association’s HeartBeat, Discipleship Journal, The Plain Truth, On Mission, Light and Life, and writer's magazines such as The Christian Communicator, Cross & Quill, and the e-zine Spirit-Led Writer. After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Dianne wrote and produced her book, Dear America: A Letter of Comfort and Hope to a Grieving Nation. Click on "Dear America" for more information, to see what others are saying about the book, and to read an excerpt from the book. Her stories and writings have been included in fifteen books. My Thoughts on the Books I've Read:
From my friend and fellow writer, Kathryn Porter. I've never been the greatest housekeeper. (I'd rather be writing!) But I found some good tips in her book to reducing clutter (which I constantly battle) and I found lots of encouragement. If you're battling clutter and looking for help, it's worth the read. Also from my friend and fellow writer, Cecil Murphy. I didn't think I was old enough for an aging book! But I found many, many points touched a familiar spot in my heart. I guess we're all aging! For someone bothered by aging or experience challenges because of again, this is an encouraging and helpful book. I also think it's a great resource Pastors and church leaders should read. I enjoyed $ix-Figure Freelancing and gleaned a lot from it. I highly recommend it. Author Dennis Hensley covers a lot of territory in this book. Some of it is for beginners, but I still gleaned so good information from it. I enjoyed this novel more than any I've read in a very long time! I'll be looking forward to reading more by Kathryn Mackel.
I love this book! I've already used it many, many times. Great not only for finding names for characters in fiction, but also when you need a pseudonym for a real person. Many uses. Great information. I know I'll be using this book a lot. If you know Ann Coulter's sense of humor, you can hear it in her writing. If you don't, her sarcasm will come off as mean. Give her a break. There's a lot of good information in this book. It surprised me with a lot of history on some of the issues of our day. I enjoyed this one. Didn't like the way it ended, though. The ending is pretty much a beginning of another story, and I haven't had time to read the sequel yet. It was worth the read. I like Bill O'Reilly and watch his show pretty often, but I can't say I agree with him on all the issues. (He thinks the war in Iraq is "a mess." I think things in Iraq are going pretty darn well. Anyway...) He also makes some real mistakes. For example, the apostle Paul was a lot of things (a Pharisee, a leader who oversaw the stoning of followers of Christ and later became a follower of Christ, a Roman citizen) but he was never, ever a Roman soldier! If you can overlook some of that, it's worth the read. I didn't read the first one, but I'm pretty sure I know the story after reading The Christmas Blessing. It was a great break from serious stuff and I really enjoyed it. I have another book by this author on stack to read. This was nice, light reading...mostly. It got heavy at times. For instance I didn't expect to be in what felt like a class teaching how to examine your breast for cancer. Excuse me? I thought I was reading for pleasure. At the time I read this, I really could have done without that. Just let me enjoy the story, for goodness sake. I have the next in the series on my reading stack. A fascinating story. Some people probably won't believe it, but the more I read the more I felt it was honestly a true story. The first half of the book was awesome information about heaven. I had to wade through the second half of the book--the extremely difficult recovery after the accident. Dare I say what I would have done if I had been the author? (If I start criticizing my colleagues and fellow authors, I'm opening myself up to them criticizing my work. Yikes! But can I keep my opinions to myself? Of course not.) I would have liked to weave the two together so the inspiring interesting stuff would have carried readers through the difficult stuff to the end. Here's another thing: I felt there was a big huge gaping hole in this book. While it talked a lot about heaven, as far as I can recall it never stated how a person can get there: by putting your faith in Jesus Christ as the payment for all your sins and trusting that God accepts His sacrifice on your behalf. When you do that, you're going to heaven. Guaranteed. (And they left that out?!) I keep trying to get into this one, but, honestly, I'm just not into romance. (You can ask my husband.) This book contains four Christmas romance novellas.
